 Virtual reality is a means for creating comprehensive illusions that you are in a different place, perhaps a fantastical, alien enviornment, perhaps with a body that is far from human.

　仮想現実とは，今いる場所とは異なった，たぶん空想的で，趣を異にする環境にいるかのような，またことによると，人間とはかけ離れた肉体を有しているかもしれないというような幅広い錯覚を創り出す一つの手段である。

 And yet, it is also the farthest-reaching apparatus for researching what a human being is in terms of cognition and perception.

　さらにまた，認識や知覚という観点からすると人間とは何であるかを研究するための最終的に目指すところの装置でもある。
